A safe Workplace is every human’s Right !
With more than 40% of the workforce in the corporate sector being women, it is important to have a culture of mutual respect and a safe working environment. Cases of sexual harassment at the workplace and at home have been making headlines. The Economic Survey 2016-17 reveals crime against women reaching ‘appalling’ levels in India. The instances of sexual harassment of women are raising in proportion to the increasing rate of women employees. It pointed to major roadblocks to empowerment and freedom for women, who constitute around 50 percent of India’s population.
The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 came into force on December 9, 2013. The Act has beeen enacted with the objective of providing women protection against sexual harassment at the workplace and for the prevention and redressal of complaints of sexual harassment.
POSH (Prevention of Sexual Harassment) for Women, is a movement under the social initiative, AwareRaho. Aimed at empowering women and organizations to empower themselves, the initiative follows a multi-dimensional approach towards the holistic development of women in the workplace, at home and in society.
With changing trends, evolving mindsets and attitudes, fast paced development, requirement of higher level of skills and competencies and gender inequality in society, women need to come to the forefront to claim their space and empower themselves.
We strongly believe that standing up against any kind of injustice, or claiming one’s rights and ensuring you get what is due to you, requires inner strength, persistence and high self-esteem. Being aware and enabling oneself with the right knowledge, winning attitude, positive mindset and a focused approach will help in nurturing the inner strength of women and self-empowering them in the true sense.
